Reuters. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi condemned the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on Saturday (October 19), repeating that Iran was ready for any scenario regarding a potential conflict with Israel.
Speaking during a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, Araqchi said Iran wanted a reduction in tensions, adding that war in the region remained a serious possibility. "No one in the region, except for the Zionist regime, wants this war," he said.
Sinwar, the architect of Hamas' deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the war in Gaza, was killed on Wednesday (October 16) in a gunfight with Israeli forces after a year-long manhunt, and his death was announced on Thursday (October 17).
Israel and its enemies Hamas and Hezbollah pledged to keep fighting in Gaza and Lebanon on Friday (October 18). Iran also said Sinwar's death would only fuel "the spirit of resistance".
