Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan delivered remarks at the 45th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie. Armenian Foreign Ministry handout of Mirzoyan’s speech reads:
Esteemed Madam Secretary General,
Honourable Ministers, dear colleagues,
First of all, let me extend my congratulations to the Republic of France for hosting the Francophonie Ministerial Meeting and the upcoming Summit.
Dear colleagues,
The events taking place in today’s world are surely a cause for serious concern. We find ourselves in a complicated geopolitical period, specified by an increasing number of conflicts and crises, the weakening of the supremacy of international law and multilateral institutions.
Our organization, with its geographical and cultural diversity, its fundamental values, and its progressive agendas focusing on humanitarian, educational, cultural, environmental protection and the advancement of women, has huge potential to address the above-mentioned challenges.
Dear colleagues,
Armenia welcomes the draft "Resolution on crisis situations in the Francophone space, overcoming them and strengthening of peace", in which we comprehensively elaborate on the existing security threats in the Francophone region and outline steps to overcome them.
We consider it important that the resolution supports the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on respect for the territorial integrity of the states, in accordance with the 1991 Alma-Ata declaration. It also welcomes the progress made in the process of delimitation of the interstate border in line with the principles reaffirmed in the Protocol of April 19, 2024. It also encourages the reopening of regional communications based on respect for the principles of sovereignty, national jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity.
Armenia is committed to continuing its efforts to establish lasting peace in the region. We have repeatedly expressed our readiness to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan without undue delay. I am confident that the support of the Francophone family will give a positive impetus to the peace process.
