Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced that the United States will continue to support Israel in the face of an "act of aggression" by Iran. According to him, American troops stationed in the Middle East "intercepted many missiles launched from Iran to Israel".
"We condemn this act of aggression by Iran and call on it to refrain from further attacks, including by terrorist groups supported by the latter," he said, adding that the United States has considerable power to protect its people, to defend Israel, to provide further support and prevent the situation from escalating.
It is also reported that Austin had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defense of Israel, Yoav Galant, and discussed the consequences of the missile attack by Iran.
