Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan on Saturday visited the Yerablur Military Pantheon to pay their respects to the fallen troops.
Pashinyan issued a statement on social media, saying:
“Only in the years that followed the 44-Day War did we fully reveal what had happened around us since the first days of independence. Furthermore, we still have to stomach, understand, and make the right conclusions from what we revealed, which isn’t easy, the pain is very strong, the emotions are very strong, and there is little space for sober judgement and analysis. For me, there is one conclusion: our martyrs opened for us a new opportunity of having a state.
We had been (subconsciously) losing that opportunity almost immediately after gaining independence, and after October 27 of 1999 we seemingly lost it irreversibly. The martyrs created a new opportunity for us. Why and how is not a subject of discussion for today. Today’s subject of discussion is one: Glory to the martyrs and long live the Republic of Armenia. Long live the Republic of Armenia, the most vivid praise to the sacrifice of the martyrs.”
