President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave a speech in the newly elected Parliament. He stated that their "number one task is increasing the country's military power". According to Aliyev, the processes taking place in the world, the emergence of new foci of conflicts and wars, and the increase in tension around Azerbaijan, as well as, according to him, the revanchist tendencies in Armenia force constant attention to that sphere.
According to him, Azerbaijan is strengthening itself on the "conventional border" because, allegedly, any provocation can be expected from Armenia at any time.
"The Armenian side is massively arming itself, and at the same time conducting military exercises with foreign countries, including major states. Western countries supply arms and ammunition to Armenia. In other words, the plans of some Western countries to turn Armenia against us are quite obvious," the President of Azerbaijan said and added that it is not possible to talk with Azerbaijan in the language of blackmail and ultimatum.
"We are ready, we can give any answer and we should always be ready for it," he emphasized.
