The Telegram messenger's management can disclose the IP addresses and phone numbers of those who violate the rules of using it, under new rules issued in response to legal requests from the authorities, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said on Monday, Interfax reports.
"We've made it clear that the IP addresses and phone numbers of those who violate our rules can be disclosed to relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests," Durov said on his Telegram channel.
In addition, the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy will now be uniform for all users regardless of their geographical location, Durov said. Such updates are being introduced to "further deter criminals from abusing Telegram Search," Durov said.
In late August, Durov was charged in France with failing to counter the spread of criminal content via the messenger.
Durov was later released from custody on a 5-million-euro bail on condition of strict court supervision and the obligation to check in at a police station twice a week. He is banned from leaving France.
