On September 22, in New York, on the margins of the Summit of the Future, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan participated and delivered remarks at an Interactive Dialogue entitled “Enhancing multilateralism for international peace and security”.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasised Armenia's support for an effective multilateral system based on the goals and principles of the UN Charter. Touching upon the documents adopted following the Summit, Vahan Kostanyan outlined the importance of reaffirming the protection of human rights in these documents as a key prerequisite for maintaining international peace and security and sustainable development.
The Deputy Foreign Minister underscored the strengthening of the UN capacities in identifying early signs of potential armed conflicts through the monitoring of security, humanitarian and human rights situations, fact-finding and assessment. Vahan Kostanyan stressed the need to enhance the international community's efforts to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the active engagement of civil society, including women and youth, in peace processes and building just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
