Budapest needs to develop cooperation with Russia, as it meets national interests, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said, while commenting on a meeting of the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, Interfax reports.
"One thing is invariable: Hungry needs to maintain cooperation with Russia, because this meets our national interests, the interests of the Hungarian people," Szijjarto said on a social network.
Budapest "is interested in developing cooperation between Hungary and Russia in areas unaffected by EU sanctions," Szijjarto, who co-chairs the commission on behalf of Hungary, said.
The Ferenc Puskas football stadium in Budapest was chosen as the meeting venue, Szijjarto said, adding that the other commission co-chair, Russian Heath Minister Mikhail Murashko had arrived there.
The meeting will be followed by a Hungarian-Russian business forum involving 78 companies, he said.
Europe keeps doing business with Russia, Szijjarto said. "By the way, the whole of Europe is doing business with the Russians, they are just trying to keep it quiet," he said.
