The Council today adopted, by common accord with the President-elect of the Commission, the list of persons whom it proposes for appointment as members of the Commission until 31 October 2029, reads the press release of the Council of the EU. The decision will now be sent to the European Parliament for approval.
"Today, the Council, in agreement with the head of the European Commission, approved the list of persons proposed to be appointed as members of the Commission for the period until October 31, 2029", reads a press release. In all, the list includes 25 European Commissioners, and former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has also been included separately: she will become the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, succeeding Josep Borrell.
The head of the European Commission presented the list of new members of the agency on September 17. Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that the new composition of her department should include 11 women, which meets a quota of 40%. The new composition of the European Commission will start its work on November 1, if all the candidates are approved by the European Parliament.
