On September 13, on the sidelines of the 10th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan and Felipe Paullier, the Head of the United Nations Youth Office, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs met with representatives from youth organisations of Armenia, public figures and young diplomats.
In his opening address, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan welcomed Felipe Paullier in Armenia, underscoring the significance of deepening collaboration with the United Nations Youth Office. He highlighted this collaboration as a means to enhance the inclusion of youth across all sectors of public life and foster their active engagement within the framework of the United Nations.
The UN Assistant Secretary-General presented the mandate and functions of the newly established Youth Office within the UN Secretariat. The discussion highlighted the efforts to elevate the role of youth in the spheres of global peace and security, development and human rights, to ensure their active participation in decision-making processes and make their needs and challenges heard.
Following, the exchange of views unfolded, during which Armenian youth posed questions to the UN Assistant Secretary-General regarding the advancement of the youth agenda, their participation in decision-making processes, and the involvement of youth organisations, including those operating at the community level, within multilateral platforms.
