In the weekly briefing, Official Representative of Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, referred to the presence of the Russian border guards at the borders of Armenia.
"The main document regulating the activity of Russian border guards is the bilateral agreement of September 30, 1992 on the status of border guard troops of the Russian Federation stationed in the territory of the Republic of Armenia and the conditions of their activity. It has an indefinite nature and for more than 30 years the Russian border guards have been guarding the borders of Armenia with their Armenian brothers in arms and have repeatedly confirmed the need for their presence in Armenia," the diplomat stated.
"In our opinion, if we think about the expediency of the presence of Russian border guards at the borders of the Republic of Armenia, then we should take into account how their absence will affect the country's security in the absence of a complete settlement of the situation in the region," Zakharova said.
