There is a misunderstanding in the international community regarding the state of Armenia-Turkey relations. Many believe that the reason of absence of normal diplomatic relations between the two countries are historical issues, but that is not the case, said Ruben Rubinyan, Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia and Armenia’s special representative in the normalization process with Turkey, during the "Yerevan Dialogue" conference.
"Armenia has always been ready and remains ready to have normalized relations with Turkey, to establish diplomatic relations, and to open the borders. If our Turkish neighbors show political will, we can have normalized relations even tomorrow," Rubinyan said.
Referring to regional connectivity, Rubinyan noted that there is now a historic opportunity to transform the South Caucasus into a "crossroad of peace."
"Connectivity should not be kept hostage by geopolitical competition; instead, it should become a tool to change negative dynamics and build peace and cooperation," stated the Vice President of Armenia’s Parliament.
