Actions to meet its defense needs and solve problems are the sovereign decisions of Armenia, and third parties cannot force or require Armenia not to acquire ammunition, not to acquire weapons. Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, said this during the briefing, addressing the question of whether it is possible for Baku to make a demand for demilitarization in order to include it in the peace treaty.
"The Government of Armenia made a very clear proposal to Azerbaijan to introduce a mechanism of mutual control of weapons, which was left unanswered.
We should also take into account that Azerbaijan is also arming itself. In other words, if there is such a concern there, there is even more of that concern here, and it is logical for such a mechanism to operate here. But from that, the mechanism remains unanswered," said Khandanyan.
When asked whether the demilitarization issue could be a reason not to sign the peace treaty, Khandanyan answered: "Such a question was not discussed during the discussions of the actual topic of the treaty."
