The Ukrainian interior ministry said a Russian strike on a hotel complex in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region on Tuesday (September 3) killed a 38-woman and her eight-year-old son and injured her husband and teenage daughter who was receiving intensive care, Reuters reports.
Video footage released by the National Police of Ukraine showed rescuers clearing the rubble of a severely damaged building and moving what appears to be a person.
Reuters was able to confirm the location from the building's facade, windows, and pillars that match satellite imagery, file, and street view images of the hotel complex. The date was also verified by Reuters coverage of the severely damaged hotel.
The past day saw 313 attacks and instances of shelling on 11 settlements, damaging several buildings in Zaporizhzhia, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said, including a missile attack on the city of the same name, which is the region's administrative center.
The Ukrainian air force said it shot down 27 out of 35 drones during Russia's overnight attack which also used four missiles.
Russian forces shot down an MiG-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force and 37 unmanned aerial vehicles in the past day, the Russian Defense Ministry said in its bulletin.
