The Armenian side presented a new proposal to Azerbaijan regarding the peace treaty process. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed about this during the press conference organized on August 31.
"I draw your attention to the new offer that Armenia presented to Azerbaijan. It's true, I must admit that it happened only yesterday, and official Baku may not have gotten to know the essence of that proposal objectively yet.
We have seventeen articles in the latest draft of the peace treaty. Thirteen of them, including the preamble, are fully agreed upon. Another three articles are comprised of more than one sentences. And most of the lexicon of these articles is also agreed upon. We offer the following, to take all agreed upon articles and wordings and sign it as a peace treaty. Why do we find this possible? Because basically all fundamental principles of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan are stipulated there,” Pashinyan said.
The Armenian Prime Minister offers Azerbaijan to sign and ratify all agreed upon articles at this moment and continue discussions about the remaining issues.
Pashinyan said he assumes that diplomatic relations will be established after the signing, which will serve as an additional platform for discussing all possible issues.
"The essence of our proposal is as follows: to sign and ratify what is already agreed upon at this moment, to continue the discussion of all other possible issues. Even our most ideal peace treaty, and the peace treaties signed between any other party, other parties, other countries, do not provide answers to all questions. In this case, especially in the already agreed articles, there is a mechanism that enables to discuss all possible issues related to the implementation of the peace agreement on a permanent platform. After the signing of that agreement, diplomatic relations will be established between the two countries," Pashinyan explained.
