What pressure should there be? We want to open communications ourselves. This was announced by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, addressing the question of whether there are pressures in the field of communications and the ‘Crossroads of Peace’.
The Prime Minister also referred to the term ‘middle corridor’. “We don't have any negative perception of the 'middle corridor' because, yes, the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ can also be part of the 'middle corridor' because these projects - the middle corridor, other projects - are so large in scale that they do not consist of one component. There are dozens of components: countries, regions, climate zones, modes of transportation, and more. Therefore, we are interested. You know, we want communications to open?" he said.
In this process, according to the Prime Minister, no issue related to Armenia's sovereignty, jurisdiction, territorial integrity can be questioned, and Armenia is ready to provide, build and invest money in international communication roads.
"As for the Azerbaijan-Nakhijevan communication, we are ready to provide roads. We provide airways, we are ready to provide highways, we are ready to provide railways based on these principles.
During this time, do we record that the Nakhijevan-Azerbaijan connection has certain features, which, let's say, assume, with all due respect, the Kazakhstan-Greece connection does not have certain features? Yes, of course, obviously there is such a thing. Are we ready to take it into account? Yes, of course, we are ready to take into account, but without belittling, questioning in any way our sovereignty, the inviolability of our borders, territorial integrity, jurisdiction and, by the way, our duty to ensure security in the territory of our country,” he said.
Pashinyan also mentioned that custody organizations licensed in Armenia can perform additional security functions.
“It is very important for us that just as the citizens of Azerbaijan feel safe and secure when passing through the territory of Armenia, so the citizens of Armenia feel safe and secure when passing through the territory of Azerbaijan. And whose responsibility is it in the first place? It is the responsibility of sovereign countries to ensure security in their sovereign territories,” he said.
