It is not that we rule out any mediation in principle. Every question must be seen in its context. The question is not to accept or not to accept any mediation, but to discuss the possible coefficient of its useful action. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during a press conference held on August 31, addressing the question of whether any mediation by Russia or the West regarding Armenia-Azerbaijan relations is unacceptable for Armenia.
"During our last contacts (Armenia-Azerbaijan-ed.), when there was a possibility that the joint work of the delimitation commissions, the regulation would be signed, in that situation I clearly said that there was no need for mediation, because if we decided at that moment, we would have involved a mediator, the whole process might have been delayed at least indefinitely. In other words, if we see that we are going to sign a specific paper, why do we add mediators, what should the mediator add?
I do not exclude any mediation, but I say again, it depends on dozens of circumstances, and maybe not dozens, less circumstances.
However, on the other hand, if I say it directly, how do you imagine that, for example, a country that accuses Armenia of sabotaging that topic would act as a mediator in the matter of regional communications? An institution making such a statement puts itself outside of all possible institutions.
Where have you seen the mediator present an accusation, which is absolutely baseless, in the end we go, sit down and say: come on, make a mediation,” explained Pashinyan.
