During the weekly briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the destruction of the monuments of Armenian heroes and participants of the Great Patriotic War in Stepanakert.
"We called and we call and confirm that we will continue to work with both sides in the direction of including the topic of preservation of the objects of the historical and cultural heritage of the Great Patriotic War in the negotiation agenda of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement. We regularly discuss this topic in working contacts with Baku and Yerevan.
We expressed a principled position on the inadmissibility of destroying monuments to Soviet soldiers, regardless of where it happened, and every time we touch on this topic, in particular, with the representatives of Azerbaijan," Zakharova said and added:
"In Azerbaijan, they understand that preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War is the sacred duty of our countries."
