Former U.S. president Donald Trump on Monday (August 26) voiced uncertainty over his planned September 10 debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting the sponsoring network, ABC News, was biased against him and that the Harris camp was trying to change the ground rules agreed to by his campaign, Reuters reports.
The issue is whether a candidate's microphone should be muted when the other candidate is speaking, as was the case during Trump's debate in June with President Joe Biden.
"The agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time," Trump said at a campaign stop for U.S. senate candidate Hung Cao in VIrginia. "In that case, it was muted. I didn't like it the last time, but it worked out fine. Ask Biden how it worked out. It was fine, and I think it should be the same. We agreed to the same rules, same rules, same specifications, and I think that's probably what it should be."
Harris's campaign team has asked that the microphones not be muted during their planned debate next month in Philadelphia.
