The first session of the supreme interstate council of the two countries took place in Tashkent with the participation of the presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev also held meetings with narrow and extended formats.
The leaders expressed satisfaction that the bilateral relations have a strategic alliance character. Issues of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and tourism were discussed, ideas were exchanged on international and regional issues.
Aliyev stated that the regions of Central Asia, the South Caucasus and the Caspian Sea are turning into a unified geopolitical region, where positive processes, according to the President of Azerbaijan, largely depend on effective contacts between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
Mirziyoyev also emphasized that Baku is an important strategic partner and ally of Tashkent. He described Aliyev's visit as historic, informed that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have outlined 20 new directions of cooperation. According to Mirziyoyev, the meeting with the Azerbaijani delegation took place in an open and constructive atmosphere.
As a result of the meeting of the presidents, a number of documents were signed, in particular, the "Agreement on alliance relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan", the agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan and the National Guard of Uzbekistan, the protection of labor rights of the citizens of the two countries, trade, economy, investments, oil and documents on the expansion of cooperation in other areas.
Mirziyoyev and Aliyev also met with representatives of the business circles of both countries.
