The Israeli Government has confirmed Israel's occupation of the enclave by not allowing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to visit the Gaza Strip, on August 22, Riyad al-Maliki, the foreign minister of Palestine and adviser to the president on international relations, said in a statement to RIA Novosti.
"We did not ask permission. We informed that the President will go to Gaza. And then came Israel's response, stating that they would not allow President Mahmoud Abbas to enter Gaza. This only means that Gaza is under Israeli military occupation," he said.
Riyad al-Maliki also noted that Abbas foresaw a similar reaction from the Israeli authorities.
It is for this reason that he requested support from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in advance to enter Gaza.
