Iran intends to obtain the observer status at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reports.
“A request submitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran for the observer state status in the EAEU has been considered by the EEC. Web-based consultations were held under the chairmanship of Sergei Glazyev, Member of the Board (Minister) for Integration and Macroeconomics of the EEC, on 19 August 2024. The EAEU member states were represented by the deputy foreign affairs ministers. The Iranian delegation was headed by Seyed Jalaledin Alavi Sabzevari, Director General for International and Multilateral Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran," the press service said.
The participants of the consultations noted the continuous development of trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU member states and Iran and approved the country's bid to obtain an observer status at the EAEU in accordance with the EAEU regulations on the observer state status.
"The decision to grant a foreign partner such a status is made by the heads of the EAEU member states at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council," the EEC explained.
