During a brief visit to Lebanon, French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné emphasized France's unwavering support for Lebanon amid regional tensions. Speaking after a meeting with President Nabih Berri at Ain el-Tineh Palace, Séjourné delivered a clear message of de-escalation, urging Lebanese authorities and other regional players to work towards a more peaceful future during these delicate times.
He reiterated France's commitment to strengthening the Lebanese army, particularly in the south, and highlighted ongoing efforts at the United Nations to extend the mandate of UNIFIL for another year.
Séjourné also called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, underlining its importance for regional peace.
His visit included meetings with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib before his departure later in the day.
