A debate schedule for the 2024 presidential election is taking shape. The Trump campaign and the Harris campaign have agreed to three debates, two between the presidential candidates and one between the candidates for vice president, Fox News reports.
The vice-presidential debate was officially confirmed on Thursday morning when Senator JD Vance accepted a CBS invitation to debate Governor Tim Walz on October 1st.
“I think I oughta have to go before the American people and make the case for why I deserve to have that job.” Vance said.
Former president Donald Trump says he’s eager to face off against Vice President Kamala Harris. Their first debate is set for September 10th on ABC News.
“Kamala will be exposed during the debates. She will be exposed during the debate, or debates,” Trump said.
Team Trump is pushing for more debates.
“I think we ought to do as many debates as we possibly can. I know the president, President Trump, has invited Kamala Harris to do three debates? She’s only agreed to one,” Vance said.
Though in a statement, Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler signaled Harris will do two debates.
“Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1st and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” Tyler said.
The details of a potential October presidential debate are still up in the air.
Until then, the candidates are hitting swing states and battling for voters out on the campaign trail.
