These days, the Middle East is once again at a crossroads, Annalena Baerbock, Foreign Minister of Germany said.
“I urgently appeal to everyone in the region to abandon the path of ever-increasing escalation. De-escalation is the order of the day. No one is helped if more people have to leave their homes and more children lose their parents. Another war will only bring new suffering on all sides.
There is still a chance to turn things around. Escalation is not automatic. The chance for a humanitarian ceasefire, the release of the hostages and the alleviation of the suffering in Gaza must not be squandered now. All efforts must focus on this.
This would also contribute to regional de-escalation. We are monitoring the situation closely and are in close contact with our international partners. The Federal Government's crisis team met again today at the Foreign Office. I urge all Germans in the region to take our travel warnings seriously”, she said in a post on X.
