Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called on the European Union to restore diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, Bild reports.
In a letter to the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the Hungarian politician assessed the recent negotiations with the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, China and Turkey, and also spoke about the conversation with Donald Trump. “In general, it can be stated that the intensity of the military conflict will radically increase in the near future,” he writes.
Orban called for talks on a “peace conference” with China, the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia and a “political offensive” against the Global South, “whose respect has been lost” because of the EU’s stance on the war in Ukraine.
The Hungarian Prime Minister criticizes the current US President Joe Biden and his intention to stay in office. “The current President is making great efforts to stay in the race. It is obvious that he is not able to change the current pro-war policy of the US and therefore it is impossible to expect him to start a new one,” the letter says.
At the same time, he assures that Trump, after his victory, will be ready to “immediately act as a peace mediator.” According to Orban, the politician has “detailed and well-founded plans” to end the war in Ukraine.
“I am more than convinced that in the event of a probable victory of President Trump, the financial burden between the US and the EU will change significantly to the disadvantage of the EU when it comes to financial support for Ukraine,” he added.
