The Armenian-American Eagle Partner military exercises will be held for the second time and cause nothing but regret, especially against the background of Yerevan's actual freezing of its activities in the CSTO and public attacks on the organization, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a briefing.
"Whatever peaceful peacekeeping goals the Westerners declare, the main objective is obvious: to create a springboard for the realization of their own geopolitical projects, and in reality, we are talking about adventures. The appearance of Americans in the Caucasus will only fuel the conflict potential remaining in the region and create new dividing lines. You can keep these words somewhere and check them with reality after some time. Unfortunately, I can say that this is not guessing, but analysis based on factual data.
The Westerners are maniacally dragging Armenia into various formats of interaction in and around the South Caucasus, which are primarily aimed against Russia and Iran.
Through involvement in maneuvers and training programs under their auspices, they impose NATO standards of the armed forces on the Republic. This leads to the reformatting of Armenia's entire security system and, as a consequence, to the acquisition by Westerners of additional levers of influence on its domestic and foreign policy.
The Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry has once again reaffirmed Russia's commitment to the alliance obligations towards Armenia, including the provision of security.
At the same time, such steps of Yerevan, which are becoming systemic, undermine the prospects of functioning of well-tested mechanisms of interaction in this area," Zakharova said.
