On July 5, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the congressional delegation led by the U.S. Senator Roger Wicker. At the talk in small format the meeting in extended format followed, to which the RA NA deputies also took part.
Welcoming the arrival of the delegation to Armenia, the RA NA President thanked the USA for the continuous support to democratic vision of Armenia.
“The USA continuously supported the democratic vision of Armenia and considerably promoted the strengthening of the democratic institutes and the rule of law and the protection of human rights in Armenia. In this context, we greatly highlight the role of the United States and highly assess the support of the USA to the sovereignty, independence, democracy, territorial integrity and the inviolability of border of Armenia based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration,” Alen Simonyan said.
The issues regarding the peace treaty, the Armenian-Turkish relations, the repatriation of Armenian captives being held in Azerbaijan and the preservation of the Armenian historical-cultural heritage of Nagorno Karabakh were at the core of discussions. The Crossroads of Peace project drafted by the RA Government was presented to the American guests.
The parties also held a joint press conference.
