I am a member of the Republican Party and, more importantly, I am a member of a bipartisan delegation, and the delegation includes representatives from both houses of Congress, members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. We have four representatives from the House of Representatives and 3 senators in our delegation, Senator Roger Wicker said during a press conference in Yerevan.
"We were participating in the OSCE PA in Romania, and the first place we chose to visit after that conference was Armenia, this beautiful country, to learn, to see what we can only see on the spot, to hear, speaking, the people of Armenia, the leaders, with the voices that represent diverse opinions in this country. On behalf of our delegation, I can say that I do not remember any other visit where we received such a warm and polite welcome. We are really delighted with the reception we received in Armenia. We thought we knew a lot about the situation, about the neighborhood, but the visit allowed us to learn a lot more. What we learned once again confirmed that Armenia is in a difficult neighborhood. There are challenges in all directions," the Senator noted.
"Yesterday was the USA Independence Day. It is the day of the adoption of the American Declaration of Independence. Today, Armenia celebrates the Constitution Day, and it is a significant day, and we are here today, and I congratulate all citizens on the holiday," he said.
According to Wicker, some forces in the world, also in this region, are trying to destroy democracy and freedom. "Armenia is showing great determination in this matter to prevent this from happening. Now more than ever it is clear that here the Government and the people of Armenia want to see a Peace Treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, they want it to be completed and signed, and the delimitation and demarcation to be completed, so that the prisoners of war of the last war are released. It was also mentioned that among the leaders of this country there is a desire to reopen the borders so that there is free movement of people from neighboring Turkey and to stimulate the economy in Armenia. We are on your side in this issue," he said.
He also addressed his colleagues in Azerbaijan and other OSCE members. "Beware of what unification with Putin's Russia can lead to. I want to advise our friends in Azerbaijan to try to understand the price and value of freedom. And we have seen it many times, and I want to convey this warning to all those who are in Azerbaijan. Beware that the great Russian bear does not once again try to dominate, to occupy a dominant position over the republic of the former Soviet Union," said Roger Wicker.
