Georgia and Armenia are connected by special friendship and neighborliness, which has a centuries-old history. I am convinced that today's visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia will give a new impetus to our relations. Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili stated this in a joint press briefing with his visiting Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, Wednesday, reported First Channel television Georgia.
As Darchiashvili noted, with the signing of a declaration on strategic partnership, Armenia-Georgia bilateral cooperation reached a qualitatively new level.
"The new phase has become a breakthrough in our multilateral cooperation. During today's meeting, I once again thanked my [Armenian] colleague for the historic support of the UN resolution, which confirms the right of all forcibly displaced persons and refugees to return to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, for which I would like to thank you once again," added Darchiashvili.
According to the Georgian FM, in the conversation with his Armenian counterpart, they discussed the political and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as the processes taking place in the region.
"Georgia and Armenia firmly support and respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. We talked about intensive multi-plan cooperation between our countries. Armenia is among the top ten major trade partners of Georgia, as well as among the top three in tourism. We have discussed various directions regarding these matters, and I am convinced that our economic cooperation will continue to strengthen, which will bring benefits to both countries. We talked about the current processes of the region, which correspond to challenges and opportunities; we emphasized the importance of our joint efforts in the process of overcoming these challenges. Georgia strongly supports stability and peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus," said Ilia Darchiashvili.
In addition, the Georgian FM said he hopes that the peace agreement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan will maintain positive dynamics.
"We [i.e. Georgia] are ready, within the limits of our neighbors' demands and our capabilities, to continue contributing to the promotion of constructive dialogue and ensuring stability and peace in the region. We welcome the historic decision reached peacefully between Armenia and Azerbaijan to start the process of delimitation of the state border. I hope that the peace agreement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan will preserve the positive dynamics," said Ilia Darchiashvili.
