US Secy. of Defense Lloyd Austin on Tuesday said the United States is set to announce a new USD2.3 billion security assistance package for Ukraine.
Austin made the remarks as he hosted an honor cordon for Ukrainian Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov at the Pentagon.
Austin also met with Ukrainian Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak.
Kyiv said it has evacuated 700 residents from Toretsk, a mining town near the front line in Donetsk that is being targeted by Russia.
Some 5,000 people remain in the town which had a population of about 30,000 people before Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
