A historic opportunity has been created for the conclusion of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
As Azerbaijani media reports, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark Libby announced this at an event dedicated to US Independence Day.
"We wish Azerbaijan and the region a deeper future partnership that ensures peace, progress, and security. This month, our Azerbaijani colleagues told me that for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, after Russian troops left Azerbaijan a few weeks ago, there are no foreign troops in the country. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan and Armenia began demarcating borders, negotiated a prisoner exchange, and signaled they were closer than ever to signing a peace accord. The United States also believes these remarkable steps have opened a historic window of opportunity."
According to Mark Libby, the US believes a peace agreement with Armenia will create unprecedented stability and open the door to trade and business cooperation that will benefit Azerbaijan and the region. The ambassador also emphasized that the United States will continue to motivate the parties to take advantage of this opportunity and will do everything possible to support them.
