Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed today that France seeks to use Armenia as a tool to achieve its own goals.
"When we talk about the Caucasus region, we understand that there is a peace plan, a step-by-step plan, a roadmap to normalise the situation, to open up opportunities for economic and humanitarian cooperation, to build transport logistics - all this is laid out in the relevant agreements that have been reached between Baku, Yerevan and Moscow," Zakharova said at a press briefing.
In her opinion, this causes "wild jealousy in the West".
"Having made no progress on the peace settlement track, they are simply preparing the matter for another chaos. Perhaps this could be seen as revenge for Russia's peace-loving efforts, which produced a concrete result, outlining a way out of the years-long stalemate," Zakharova said.
She said Paris was a bad adviser in the region, casting a cloud and fuelling the conflict with rhetoric.
"They will not bear any responsibility, those who will be involved in clearing the rubble of the next conflict, who will be thrown into the furnace of someone's ambitions and interests..... will suffer Paris is not guided by the interests of Armenia, not by the interests of its people, but seeks to use Yerevan as a tool to achieve its own opportunistic goals," Zakharova said.
