The delegation led by the RA NA President Alen Simonyan is on an official visit in Riga at the invitation of the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa.
On June 26, the delegation involved with the Head of the Armenia-Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia Friendship Group Arsen Torosyan, members of the Group Eduard Aghajanyan and Maria Karapetyan had a meeting with Daiga Mieriņa.
Besides other issues of bilateral interest, the issues regarding the RA-EU cooperation, as well as the democratic reforms of Armenia were at the core of discussions. In this context Alen Simonyan underscored the importance of development of the relations with Latvia as a bilateral partner and the EU member.
Speaking about the inter-parliamentary relations, the RA NA President stressed the issue of the activation of the ties between the Friendship Groups functioning in the two parliaments, proposing to initiate cooperation between the Standing Committees of the two parliaments, as well as within the framework of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) format.
Alen Simonyan presented to his colleague the Crossroads of Peace project initiated by the Government of Armenia and asked the latter’s support in returning the Armenian captives being held in Azerbaijan to the Motherland.
On behalf of the RA NA delegation, thanking for the warm reception, Alen Simonyan invited the Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa to visit the Republic of Armenia.
