A funnel-like storm hit Georgia’s Alaverdi Cathedral on Tuesday, June 25, damaging part of its roof, according to eyewitness reports.
A nun told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Georgia service that “a very strange tornado” had damaged the cathedral’s dome and uprooted nearby trees. A tour guide who filmed this footage also shared photos of at least one flipped car.
The Alaverdi monastery is located in Georgia’s Kakheti region, where the National Environment Agency had reportedly issued severe weather warnings.
A tornado has not been confirmed so far in the region.
