We have reached the stage where most of the clauses that have been problematic for us and for Azerbaijan have their answers, Armenia’s Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said this in a briefing with journalists.
“I said last year that in case of political will, the peace treaty can be signed tomorrow, but we are witnessing a situation when, for example, the meeting parties discuss something, come to an agreement, and then the President of Azerbaijan starts attacking that process. We have also seen that it is related to Khojalu. It would be good if Mr. President spoke about the Sumgait pogroms and the Baku pogroms. We should have started talking about that genocide first, if we are going for peace, the side that wants peace should first of all talk, emphasize the open places that can hinder peace, and not talk about such things.
Torpedoing for a country that wants to receive the COP, that wants to act as a partner in the international arena, that wants to be an equal partner to different countries of the world, that does not want to protest against the democratic progressive countries of Europe and the world that criticize them, should release the prisoners of war and its political prisoners. We have a man who is not even a military man, we are talking about Sujyan, who was stolen from the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, is being held there. And I have great concern, and I have expressed my concern to all the international institutions and all the international partners that I have met, that that person’s health and life may be in danger, because in that particular case they see reprisals, and the person who wants peace says something at the negotiation table, but then hits a torpedo. However, that doesn't mean anything, because Armenia will continue on its chosen path of peace. We will bring about peace, we will bring about the presence of clear borders," said Simonyan.
He noted that in order to understand which part of the peace treaty remains non-agreed; we should wait for Azerbaijan's response. “We have sent ours now, we are waiting for the answer. Then we will know what remains non-agreed,” said the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Journalists asked whether an agreement was reached for Armenia and Azerbaijan to delegate the Nakhijevan-Syunik road to a foreign organization.
“I don't remember such a question in the peace treaty. We have said, and our position is that we are ready for the opening of all roads and all possible communications, which is also beneficial to Azerbaijan,” said Alen Simonyan.
