World War Two veterans gathered for a commemoration ceremony on Wednesday (June 5) near the Benouville bridge, codenamed 'Pegasus Bridge' in 1944, to honour fallen comrades, Reuters reports.
Dozens of British and American veterans who took part in the D-Day operations gave speeches, laid wreaths and listened to their national anthems.
Among those present were British radio operator Mary Scott, Royal Navy gunner, Bob Gravells, and American infantryman "Papa Jake" Larson.
Pegasus Bridge was a strategic crossing successfully taken by British paratroopers just after midnight on June 6, 1944.
Their role was to secure the bridge and hold it until the troops that landed on the beaches arrived.
