Secretary of the Russian Security Council and former Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu has been appointed coordinator of the work on the development of the defense-industrial complex, TASS reported.
President Vladimir Putin has asked to determine the volumes of the most sought-after types of armaments.
"The issues are so diverse - you have to consider the profitability of production, you have to make sure that the Ministry of Defense gets the right equipment.
An independent coordinator of all this work is needed here. This coordinator will be the Secretary of the Security Council," Putin said.
At a meeting with members of the government, the head of state stated that the problems in the field of the defense-industrial complex are diverse and when solving them, the development of new weapons should also be taken into account.
Putin earlier said that Sergei Shoigu, who took over as secretary of the Security Council, would have a huge workload in his new role. The head of state also emphasized that Shoigu knows both the needs of the Russian armed forces and the capabilities of industry.
On May 12, the Russian president fired Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and replaced him with former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov took over the leadership of the Ministry of Defense.
