The Georgian Parliament overcame the President's veto on the law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence", Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
84 deputies voted for the overcoming the veto, four were against.
The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, vetoed the law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" on May 18. She added only one article to it, according to which the law is valid only for one day after its implementation and loses its force on the second day. The parliament is already debating the president's veto at the plenary session.
On May 14, the Parliament adopted the draft law "On transparency of foreign influence" in the third reading.
The law envisages the registration of such non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities and media outlets as "organizations carrying out the interests of a foreign power" with a certain amount of income - more than 20 percent - received from abroad.
According to the draft law passed in the third reading, everyone who is considered as an "organization carrying out the interests of a foreign power" must be registered in the public register in a database with the same name. At the time of registration, it will be necessary to reflect the received income.
Avoiding registration as an "organization carrying the interests of a foreign power" or failure to fill out the declaration will result in the organization being fined 25,000 GEL.
