In honor of Armenian-French world-known musician, actor, Armenia’s National Hero Charles Aznavour's 100th birthday, one of the central parks in Paris has been named after him. Several parliamentarians, foreign diplomats accredited in Paris, French public, political, and cultural figures, and hundreds of French and French-Armenians attended the ceremony.
A commemorative plaque marking the naming of the park "French artist, National Hero of Armenia, Charles Aznavour Park" was unveiled at the event. A statue of Charles Aznavour will also be erected in the park soon.
According to the Armenian Ambassador to France, Hasmik Tolmajian, "The world-famous artist, who became the ambassador of the entire Armenian people embodying France, managed to captivate millions of hearts with his unique voice and emotional songs, becoming an eternal legend of world music. National Hero of Armenia Charles Aznavour was unconditionally and wholly by the side of the Republic of Armenia and actively involved in all initiatives for the benefit of Armenia".
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo noted that it is important to open a park in the heart of Paris in memory of the great Armenian artist of global significance. According to her, this initiative is also a unique tribute to Armenia and a testimony of Paris's unconditional dedication to the Armenian people.
