Reuters. Madrid has permanently recalled its ambassador in Buenos Aires, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Tuesday (May 21), further escalating a row over derogatory comments made by Argentine President Javier Milei in Madrid.
Albares added that the embassy in Argentina would from now on be headed by the charge d'affaires.
The decision comes after Milei made derogatory comments about Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's wife during a far-right rally in Madrid during the weekend.
Argentina's government said on Tuesday (May 21) it would not withdraw its ambassador from Spain after the European country stepped up its diplomatic rebuke of President Javier Milei of Argentina.
Milei had called Sanchez's wife Begona Gomez "corrupt" during a rally in Madrid organized by the far-right Vox party and attended by many of its international allies.
Argentine President said on Monday (May 20) on a TV interview that he won't apologise.
