On May 17, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Alexander Schallenberg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria. The meeting took place within the framework of the working visit of the Foreign Minister of Armenia to Strasbourg.
The interlocutors discussed the agenda of bilateral relations, as well as the steps aimed at deepening the Armenia-EU partnership. The current issues of the application of the EU toolkit to support the strengthening of Armenia’s resilience, economic development, as well as the importance of making progress in the direction of the launch of the Visa Liberalization dialogue were touched upon.
In the context of regional stability, the functioning of the EU monitoring mission on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan and the direct engagement of the member states were commended.
The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Austria also exchanged views on regional issues. Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his interlocutor on the efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, emphasizing that the democratic reforms adopted by the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the peace agenda pursue one clear goal: to provide a stable, safe environment for the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
Touching upon the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Minister Mirzoyan presented the details of the negotiations held in Almaty, the consistent position of Armenia on key issues and emphasized the importance of adherence to the mutual recognition of territorial integrity based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. Ararat Mirzoyan and Alexander Schallenberg also exchanged views on the issues of unblocking regional communications.
