The commander of Iran's army ground forces, Kioumars Heydari, visited the eastern borders of the country, where the construction of border barriers has started, reports ISNA agency.
"We respect all our neighbors, but we are implementing the border blocking project in this part of the country based on security considerations," Heydari said.
He singled out drug smuggling and terrorist activities among the security problems.
The representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces told ISNA that the walls will not be built along the borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, but only in vulnerable areas, and helicopters, drones, and quadcopters will be used to protect the borders.
