The issue of including the Alma-Ata declaration in the peace agreement will be discussed at the meeting of the delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan foreign ministers in Kazakhstan on May 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during the press conference on May 7.
"Alma-Ata Declaration is accepted by Armenia and Azerbaijan, as the basic principle of demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and it is an irreversible reality because it was recorded by both countries at a high level", he said.
Referring to the delimitation process, the Prime Minister noted that it is taking place on the basis of the latest legitimate maps of the Soviet Union.
"Why do we avoid saying that on a specific map, because you know - we have said before - that we do not want to limit ourselves to listing a specific map, because we have said before that it is true that we are doing delimitation now in the Kirants region, but it is important for us to express the legal grounds aimed at ensuring the complete delimitation of the border perimeter of Armenia, and we act accordingly in practice as well. As a matter of fact, we have not deviated from the previous statements, we act according to that logic, maps are used that express the borders between Soviet Armenia and Soviet Azerbaijan at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union", Pashinyan said.
Referring to the installation of border pillars, Pashinyan noted. "The border pillars become a security guarantee for Voskepar, Kirants, Berkaber, Baghanis and Armenia in general. We are in a situation where we have no security guarantees, and therefore, what should be our action in this situation? We need to create security guarantees, and we are not just delimitating now. The purpose of delimitation is to implement the formation of security guarantees, and the border pillars are pillars of security guarantees, they are pillars of security", he said.
The prime minister noted that the goal at this stage is not to analyze whether there will be a war or not, whether there will be an attack or not, but to make sure that war is excluded.
"As of now, most of the work has already been done, 90 percent has already been done, and the more that work goes on, the stronger the belief that security guarantees are being formed, and the war is losing ground, the war is becoming illogical, the war is becoming illegitimate", he said.
