It is a great honor for us to host the Armenian Foreign Minister after a 15-year break. This is the first time since I was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs that the flag of Armenia is placed in the building of our Ministry. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said this during a joint press conference with Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, the Caucasus region has witnessed conflicts over the past few years and decades that have caused "difficulties and suffering" to the people of the region.
"Our goal and task has been to support peace, and the same applies to the Caucasus region, which is why we welcome the significant steps towards peace that we have witnessed by both Armenia and Azerbaijan to ensure long-term and sustainable peace in the region, as well as for people living in the region.
Hungary would like to contribute to peacekeeping efforts in this case, as well as in terms of the region, that is why we have decided and also agreed to start our diplomatic ties and relations with Armenia in December 2022," he said.
