Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a press conference after the meeting.
"Of course, first of all, we discussed the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This conflict should be settled peacefully. The chances of that are greater than ever," Scholz noted.
He positively evaluated the dialogue between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressed hope that the parties will show the necessary constructiveness. The German chancellor expressed the opinion that the peace treaty will be signed this year. "Germany is ready to support both countries in the search for necessary compromises. We are happy with the preliminary agreements on delimitation," said Scholz.
Aliyev, for his part, stated that he highly values the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations. According to him, the possible meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries in Kazakhstan will be another step towards concluding a peace treaty.
"There are good opportunities to achieve peace. We are ready to cooperate with those countries that want to help us in this matter," Aliyev added.
