It is realistic to reach an agreement on the fundamental principles of peace with Armenia before COP-29, Ilham Aliyev stated, adding that efforts in this direction should be intensified.
According to the President of Azerbaijan, the issues of border delimitation should be separated from the negotiations on the peace treaty. He emphasized that the delimitation issue is a very complicated process and will take a long time. Aliyev reminded that in the delimitation process, the parties are guided by the Alma-Ata declaration and have no territorial claims against each other.
"The developments related to the border show that we do not need mediators. If they leave us alone, sooner or later we will come to an agreement. Peace is near, more than ever. Today, we already have a draft peace treaty, there is a general understanding of what it should look like. Of course, there is a need to discuss the details, it takes time," Aliyev noted, stressing that the important thing is that both sides have the political will to sign the document.
