During a meeting with representatives of foreign analytical centers, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev referred to the 2020 statement of November 9, falsely accusing Armenia of violating it and not providing communication with Nakhijevan.
According to Aliyev, it will not be possible to avoid this obligation. He noted that regardless of "how the other circumstances were arranged", signatures were placed under the document. Aliyev noted that Baku had to find an alternative on that road through the territory of Iran.
He expressed the opinion that, allegedly, Armenia is obliged to provide a road to Nakhijevan through its territory, which will be secured by an international security mechanism. The President of Azerbaijan also referred to the Crossroads of Peace initiative, and noted that in order to implement it, an agreement must first be reached with Baku.
Official Yerevan has repeatedly announced that roads to be provided in Clause 9 of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 must operate under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the parties, with the principles of reciprocity and equality, and no issue can be discussed with a corridor logic.
