Reuters. Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday (April 16) two-way ties with Germany would continue to develop steadily as long as both sides sought “common ground” and respected each other and their differences.
They should also be wary of protectionism and insist on objectively examining production capacity issues, Xi was quoted as saying by Chinese state television CCTV during a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Beijing.
Scholz is on a three-day visit to China, his first since his government launched a “de-risking” strategy last year to avoid tethering Germany too closely to the world’s second-largest economy.
His visit also coincided with European Union concerns about the threat to European businesses from Chinese goods, including electric vehicles and other green technologies, flooding its markets.
