The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported that during the manifestation near Rustaveli Avenue and the Parliament Building, participants physically confronted the police and hurled various blunt objects, including stones and bottles, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
“During the manifestation in the area of Rustaveli Avenue and the Parliament Building, despite numerous calls from the side of Ministry of Internal Affairs directed to the organizers and participants of the rally to express their protest within the frames defined by the acting legislation, and to abstain from violent actions, participants of the manifestation physically confronted the police and threw various blunt objects in their direction, including stones and bottles.
As a result of the mentioned illegal actions, an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was injured and transferred to the Caucasus Medical Center. Herewith, the vehicle belonging to the ministry was damaged as well. To prevent physical confrontation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs administered special means – the so-called pepper spray.
The law enforcement officers detained 11 persons under the Code of Administrative Offences for violating the acting legislation.
The Agency once again calls on organizers and participants of the rally to ensure that the protest is expressed within the frames defined by the law. Each illegal action will be followed by an appropriate legal response from the side of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the MIA stated.
